State indoor still in Akron?

Others

Another indoor season. Another trip to Zippyland.
However, I heard some rumblings about the Ohio Association of Track and Cross Country Coaches State Indoor Track and Field Meet being moved from the University of Akron’s Stile Field House to the new GaREAT Sports Complex in Geneva.
I know some of our area teams have experienced the facility [...]

End of season wrap

2009 Cross Country

Well, this is my last blog entry prior to the 2010 track and field season.
As for the 2009 season, it bring a lot of promise for those who ran this season.
McDonald’s boys … the odds-on favorite from this area to give Independence, Bellaire St. John Central, Russia and St. Thomas Aquinas a helluva run.
Maplewood boys [...]

OHSAA’s Parking Wars

2009 Cross Country, State

Frankly, this entry should be about how Maplewood’s boys and girls finished fourth at state. How McDonald boys and girls had good showings.
It shouldn’t be about parking.
However, it is.
Thank you Ohio High School Athletic Association!
One reporter came back in to the press area and said, “I might as well write here. I can’t go anywhere.”

McDonald can reach podium again

2009 Cross Country, State

McDonald. Never, ever discount these Blue Devils.
Even though the Independence Blue Devils, which is why I’m sticking to McDonald and Independence as references, has good shot of making it to the podium Saturday for the second straight year.

2009 Cross Country, State

Independence coach Craig Polman said he knew the Blue Devils were a state power when they finished tied for second with McDonald — a point behind first-place Maplewood in the Spartan Invitational on Sept. 19.
Being with the likes of Maplewood and McDonald is always a good measuring stick.
Independence beat Maplewood at the Oct. 2 Gilmour [...]

Boardman Regional afterthoughts … division III

2009 Cross Country, Regionals

McDonald … Maplewood … Independence … Berkshire … St. Thomas Aquinas. Frankly, those are your heavy hitters, so to speak, for cross country. They are your power schools. Saturday, through the muddy conditions at an always difficult Boardman course, they didn’t disappoint.  Both Maplewood, St. Thomas Aquinas and McDonald boys and girls team advance to [...]

McDonald, Maplewood. Both the boys and girls teams will advance. Both teams, barring they don’t have an swine flu dragging any of their teammates down, will make trips down to Scioto Downs.
Independence and St. Thomas Aquinas will also advance for the boys, while Berkshire and Gilmour Academy go for the girls. Independence will win the [...]

2009 Cross Country, Regionals

Woodridge for the boys. Jimmy Charles and Kyle Cochrun will pace the Bulldogs. Question is, who will finish second, third and fourth? Crestwood, Marlington, Field, Orrville and West Branch will battle for the three remaining spots.
Kyle Masterson from Marlington will give Charles and Cochrun a chase for the boys title as will Crestwood’s Braden McGee. [...]
